Somehow I ended up at a celebration for a newborn baby this
evening in Fiango, an area of town just next to Kumba. I didn’t really know
anyone, but thanks to Cameroonian hospitality they welcomed me profusely, gave
me food and drink, and we eager to talk with me. (There’s this commercial on TV
here that starts of by saying, “If making friends with complete strangers is
crazy, then Africa is the craziest place on earth.” It’s true!)
The event is called a “born house,” which is a traditional
festival held by a family to celebrate the birth of a newborn baby. There is
traditional food, dancing, and all sorts of other rituals. I only managed two
pictures before my camera died. They are below.
