Youth Enrichment League: Championship

Sunday, August 18, 2013

The first of our Youth Enrichment Football League's three seasonal tournaments is over. Best Stars FC defeated Dr. Mofor SA 10-7 on total points and 1-0 in the actual match to win CFDP's inaugural YEFL competition.

To commemorate the championship match, we had a five hour ceremony, which included all sorts of activities before and after the match, such as a traditional African drum/dance ensemble, CFDP education based activities, a speech from CFDP Kumba's Director of Operations Diony Collins, a DJ, food, drink, football, and even a loudspeaker with a bi-lingual team of match commentators (English and French). There were also a number of notable people in attendance, including the Divisional Officer of Kumba I, which helped to strengthen the legitimacy of our event.

After the match, we gave a number of awards to players and coaches based on their performances throughout the tournament. Awards included Best Coach, Most Improved Coach, Golden Boot (highest goal scorer throughout the tournament), Best Goalkeeper (throughout the tournament), Man of the (Championship) Match, Best Fair Play Team (the team that most exemplified CFDP values regardless of their success on the field), and finally, an award the groundsman of GPS Field, where the majority of our tournament's matches were played.

Below are the match report, the awards and award recipients, and pictures:
